Ten Recommendations to turn the tide on online scams

(16 May 2023) – Online scams have become a global epidemic. Consumers worldwide lost an estimated $55 billion as a result of online scams. The social and emotional trauma cannot even be measured. In many countries, online scams are the most reported type of crime such as in the UK where 41% of all reported crimes are now related to online fraud, and 50% in Singapore.

At the 4th Global Anti Scam Summit we will further define each of the Ten Recommendations to Turn the Tide on Scams.

WTA New Chairman

(21 April 2023) – World Trustmark and Trade Alliance (WTA) is pleased to announce Mr. Ramesh E.V. Balakrishnan as a new chairman.

Mr. Ramesh is a highly experienced, successful, and well-regarded organization leader. He is the Chief Privacy Officer of CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG), a consulting organization to initiate new market, promote security, innovations and develop human, intellectual, financial and cultural capitals within the self-sustaining enterprise ecosystems. He is also the Executive Managing Director of World Mark Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated in Malaysia to establish a framework and a system of trustmarking for the trust infrastructure.

The combination of his experience, culture, and drive makes him an ideal fit for our organization WTA for the next steps of growth and further opportunities.

Swapifly Wins Fintech Awards 2022

(19 January 2023) – Swapifly, a Hong Kong based classified online trading platform, announced today that it has been selected as 2022 Outstanding Artificial Intelligence Classified Platform. The Awards are jointly organized by ET Net, Hong Kong Cyberport and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, aiming to recognize the best Fintech and outstanding Fintech professionals in Hong Kong.

Swapifly was founded in 2022 by Mr. Joseph Yuen, an entrepreneur and chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of E-commerce (HKFEC). It will officially launch its classified online trading platform (www.swapifly.com) in the second half of 2022. The goal is to allow every independent or corporate seller to post their goods and products for free to find suitable potential buyers.

Approval of the WTA’s guest status in APEC DESG

(18 January 2023) – WTA received the approval from the APEC Member Economies for a 3-year guest status in the APEC Digital Economy Steering Group (DESG). The status will be valid until end of 2025.

About APEC DESG:
The establishment of the Digital Economy Steering Group (DESG) was in 2018. The DESG aims to facilitate the development of the internet and digital economy, including e-commerce and digital trade. The DESG’s current activities include Data Privacy Subgroup (DPS), APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) System, and APEC Privacy Recognition for Processors (PRP) System.
