DBD and WiseSight Collaborate to Boost Thai E-Commerce with Social Listening Innovation

(27 October 2025) – Mr. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development (DBD), met with Mr. Panin Asavavipas, Chief Operating Officer of WiseSight (Thailand) Co., Ltd., to explore new strategies for advancing Thailand’s e-commerce sector. The meeting, held at DBD’s headquarters, focused on empowering online entrepreneurs through data-driven tools and targeted support.

A key highlight of the discussion was the development of a Social Listening tool designed to help e-commerce merchants analyze market trends and consumer behavior across social media platforms. This initiative aims to equip Thai online businesses with actionable insights to better understand their audiences and adapt to shifting digital landscapes.

To further support registered online merchants, DBD announced exclusive privileges for those bearing the DBD Registered logo—valued at over 30,000 baht per month. These benefits are intended to enhance competitiveness and promote sustainable growth in the digital marketplace, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and resilience among Thai SMEs.

Outseer Joins Global Anti-Scam Alliance as Foundation Member

(22 October 2025) – Outseer, a global leader in digital fraud prevention, has joined the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) as a Foundation Member, reinforcing its commitment to combating the growing threat of online scams. Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2025 & Gala Dinner

(29 September 2025) – CyberSecurity Malaysia—the national cyber security specialist agency under the Ministry of Digital—officially launched its new Collaboration Partner Program (CSM-CP) during the Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2025 & Gala Dinner. The event was held in conjunction with CyberDSA 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.

The launch of the CSM-CP, officiated by Deputy Minister of Digital YB Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing national cyber resilience and protecting Malaysia’s digital economy. The program aims to foster strategic partnerships that strengthen the country’s cyber security ecosystem.

The Malaysia Cyber Security Awards 2025 also honored exemplary individuals, organizations, and institutions for their significant contributions to the advancement of cyber security. Through the dual celebration of industry excellence and the introduction of the CSM-CP, CyberSecurity Malaysia reaffirmed its dedication to building a secure, resilient, and trusted digital nation.

Hong Kong Government Launches E-Commerce Mentor Program to Empower SMEs

(1 September 2025) – The Trade and Industry Department (TID) of the Hong Kong Government officially launched the Business Mentor Program (for Brand Development and E-commerce Expansion) today, marking a strategic initiative to bolster the growth of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the digital economy.

The launch ceremony, held by the Small and Medium Enterprise Support and Consultation Centre (SUCCESS) under TID, was officiated by Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Mr. Algernon Yau and Director-General of Trade and Industry Mr. Leo Liu.

As part of the program, Mr. Yuen Nin-cho, President of the Hong Kong E-Commerce Association, has been appointed as an E-Commerce Mentor. In this role, Mr. Yuen will provide expert guidance to participating SMEs, helping them navigate brand development and cross-border e-commerce expansion.

In his keynote address, Mr. Yau emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting SMEs in embracing e-commerce and enhancing the visibility of Hong Kong brands. “Hong Kong brands have earned consumer trust and enjoy strong competitiveness across local, mainland, and ASEAN markets,” he noted.

Mr. Yau further highlighted that the Business Mentor Program is designed to meet the evolving needs of SMEs by pairing them with experienced mentors who offer tailored advice. The initiative aims to empower businesses to capitalize on the strengths of Hong Kong branding and tap into emerging opportunities in global e-commerce—particularly within mainland China and ASEAN economies.

Thailand Confronts a Growing Scam Epidemic

(14 August 2025) – Thailand is grappling with an unprecedented surge in scams, as revealed in the State of Scams in Thailand 2025 report, jointly published by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), ScamAdviser, and Whoscall. Over the past year alone, financial losses from scams have reached a staggering ฿115.3 billion (approximately $3.2 billion).

The nationally representative survey highlights several alarming trends:

  • Scam exposure is widespread, with 72% of adults facing scam attempts regularly—averaging 172 incidents annually, or nearly one every other day.
  • 60% of respondents have fallen victim to scams, and 14% have suffered financial losses.
  • Investment scams top the list, affecting 66% of victims, followed by shopping scams (63%) and job-related scams (53%).
  • Children are increasingly targeted, with 27% of parents reporting scam attempts directed at their children aged 7 to 17.
  • Reporting yields limited recovery, as 74% of victims notify payment platforms, yet only 29% manage to reclaim any funds. Meanwhile, 44% report experiencing severe stress.
  • Scammers rely heavily on direct messaging, with phone calls (68%) and SMS (56%) being the most common channels. Popular platforms like Facebook, Gmail, and TikTok also serve as frequent points of contact.

The report urges a unified response from both government and private sectors to enhance support for victims, streamline reporting mechanisms, and deploy preventive measures that intercept scams before damage occurs.
