In alignment with China’s nationwide drive for ecological civilization and the green development strategy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Hong Kong E-Commerce Association is proud to support JD Logistics’ Blue Stream Plan Mangrove Ecological Restoration Project 2.0 at the Erjingwan National Wetland Park, located within the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. As a co-organizer of this initiative, we remain committed to serving as an industry bridge, fostering the deep integration of logistics and ecological conservation.

Mangroves, often referred to as coastal guardians, possess remarkable carbon sequestration capabilities—storing six times more carbon per acre annually than tropical rainforests. JD Logistics has actively contributed to the restoration of the Erjingwan Wetland for two consecutive years, rehabilitating over 40,000 square meters of mangrove ecosystems. As a vital ecological stronghold in the Pearl River Estuary, the Hengqin Wetland plays a crucial role in mitigating saltwater intrusion and safeguarding key infrastructure, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In 2023, the restored area witnessed the presence of seven endangered black-faced spoonbills—a Class I protected species in China—highlighting the significant ecological benefits of these efforts.

We encourage all sectors in Hong Kong to take part in this transformative initiative by:

  • Actively engaging with the Ocean Box Partner program to drive business-led environmental collaboration.
  • Exploring resource exchange models that link logistics networks with ecological restoration efforts (e.g., converting carbon emissions from trunk-line logistics into designated mangrove adoption zones).
  • Participating in mangrove restoration projects to protect and revitalize China’s marine ecosystems.

From the movement of goods to ecological connectivity, from commercial fulfillment to environmental stewardship, we look forward to collaborating with JD Logistics and other industry partners to establish a pioneering Greater Bay Area model—one that embodies the philosophy: Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.
