Hong Kong Government Launches E-Commerce Mentor Program to Empower SMEs

(1 September 2025) – The Trade and Industry Department (TID) of the Hong Kong Government officially launched the Business Mentor Program (for Brand Development and E-commerce Expansion) today, marking a strategic initiative to bolster the growth of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the digital economy.

The launch ceremony, held by the Small and Medium Enterprise Support and Consultation Centre (SUCCESS) under TID, was officiated by Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Mr. Algernon Yau and Director-General of Trade and Industry Mr. Leo Liu.

As part of the program, Mr. Yuen Nin-cho, President of the Hong Kong E-Commerce Association, has been appointed as an E-Commerce Mentor. In this role, Mr. Yuen will provide expert guidance to participating SMEs, helping them navigate brand development and cross-border e-commerce expansion.

In his keynote address, Mr. Yau emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting SMEs in embracing e-commerce and enhancing the visibility of Hong Kong brands. “Hong Kong brands have earned consumer trust and enjoy strong competitiveness across local, mainland, and ASEAN markets,” he noted.

Mr. Yau further highlighted that the Business Mentor Program is designed to meet the evolving needs of SMEs by pairing them with experienced mentors who offer tailored advice. The initiative aims to empower businesses to capitalize on the strengths of Hong Kong branding and tap into emerging opportunities in global e-commerce—particularly within mainland China and ASEAN economies.
